Neil BresslerProfessor of Ophthalmology

Dr. Bressler, the inaugural James P. Gills Professor of Ophthalmology, graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1982. He has been a Hopkins faculty member since 1988, and currently is Chief of the Wilmer Eye Institute's Retina Division and author of more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed publications. As an expert in age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, he serves on the editorial boards of Retina and the Archives of Ophthalmology, chairs the Data and Safety Monitoring Committee for the National Eye Institute’s intramural clinical trials, chairs the government-sponsored Submacular Surgery Trials and the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network, and is a member of the FDA's Ophthalmic Devices Panel. He has received several honors from his peers, including most recently in 2004, the Helen Keller Foundation Award.
