(Versión española) Ashley Behrens, M.D., is a Cornea, Refractive Surgery and External Diseases Specialist. Before joining the Wilmer Eye Institute, he completed extensive subspecialty training in South America (Venezuela), Germany and the U.S., and became the Chairman of one of the largest ophthalmology departments in his home country. Dr. Behrens is a surgical innovator and has developed novel therapeutic approaches that have helped many patients regain their vision worldwide. He has published several studies in recognized journals in several languages and has devoted his career to the cure of corneal diseases and the surgical correction of refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia). Dr. Behrens has been Editor and reviewer of prestigious scientific journals. He has been recipient of several national and international awards for his contributions to ophthalmology, especially from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology.
