Message from the Wilmer Chairman

Message from the Chairman

Peter McDonnell, M.D.The abiding theme of Wilmer has always been the pursuit of excellence. Our faculty and staff are committed to give the best possible care to our patients. Likewise, our goal as educators of future ophthalmologists is to support their educational needs and career evolution to the best of our ability. Although some of our residents choose to pursue research-oriented careers, either in the laboratory or in the clinic, others will concentrate on clinical expertise; and some will be interested in teaching or management; yet some will elect to pursue a combination or all of these career paths. Whichever it is, the personal choice of the resident will receive strong support from the faculty and me. We expect that our graduates will serve as leaders, innovators and role models during their careers.

Wilmer is a distinguished training program and institute. Residents will be taught, challenged and inspired by outstanding colleagues in the field of ophthalmology during their time at Wilmer. The bonds formed with other residents, faculty and staff during the years will prove indelible. Many national and international leaders in ophthalmology have spent formative years at Wilmer, and often remark on the collegial nature of our staff.

We invite you to join us on this quest for ongoing innovation, productivity and discovery.

Peter J. McDonnell, M.D., Director
William Holland Wilmer Professor of Ophthalmology
