Peter McDonnell, M.D., Director of the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute
Michael Boland, M.D., Ph.D., Residency Program Director
The Wilmer Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital is the sponsoring institution of the Wilmer ophthalmology training program. Most of the residents' didactic programs (lectures, conferences and wet lab sessions) occur at this location. The Institute has over 70,000 square feet of patient care space, including a practice surgical center, a minor surgical room, a General Eye Clinic and more than 70 exam rooms among the subspecialty divisions. Emergency eye services are conducted at the main Johns Hopkins Emergency Department. On certain rotations, residents may also join faculty at Wilmer satellite locations. The majority of resident surgeries are performed in the Bendann Surgical Pavilion, consisting of 7 fully equipped ophthalmic operating rooms and a femtosecond laser for laser-assisted cataract surgery.
