This program requires DirectX and a display capable of 1280x1024 screen resolution. The program was originally developed to run on a touch-screen system. This version has been modified so that the mouse can be used instead. If a touchscreen is present, the mouse cursor can be hidden by changing the config parameter in the dialog box from "notouch.cfg" to "touch.cfg". The program was originally run on a display that measured 40 x 30 cm, with the subject sitting at a distance of 35 cm from the screen. These parameters can be modified in the programs initial dialog box. The Subject ID parameter in the dialog box is used in forming the output file name for the data. The program will run 5 practice trials followed by 24 normal trials. For each trial, focus on the dot in the center of the screen. After a brief period, two numbers will flash, one at the center dot and one at one of the eight outer dots. Then, the dots will be replaced by question marks. When this happens, type the number that you think appeared in the center dot followed by the number that you think appeared at the outer dot. Then, with the mouse, click the outer dot where you think the number appeared. The numbers are flashed for 250 milliseconds, and they are larger when they are shown farther away from the center of the screen. The first practice trial is meant for the examiner to explain to the subject how the test works. For the first trial, you will have to press the spacebar once to cause the 8 dots to appear, a second time to cause the numbers to appear, a third time to cause the numbers to dissappear, a fourth time to cause the question marks to appear, and, after typing in the numbers and clicking the dot, a fifth time to move on to the next trial. For all trials besides the first, the trials will proceed automatically and there is no need to press the spacebar. After the final practice trial, the words 'Get Ready' will appear at the center of the screen. Press the spacebar to continue on to the 'real' trials. The 'p' key can be pressed during any trial to pause the test. When the test is paused, pressing the spacebar will unpause it. The backspace key can be pressed after typing a number to undo it. Pressing backspace repeatedly will undo the entering of numbers, then return to the beginning of the current trial, then go back to previous trials. When this happens, the test will automatically pause; press spacebar to unpause it. Pressing the 'F1' key will toggle the display of the number of the current trial at the top of the screen. After all the trials are done, the program will end automatically. The results are logged to a seperate file for each running of the program, and these files are placed in a subdirectory called 'data' of the 'FTest' directory. The log files record, for each trial, the following values: Inner - The number shown in the center of the screen. Outer - The number shown on the ring of eight dots. Axis - Where on the ring of dots the outer number was shown. 0 is the right dot, 90 is the top dot, 180 is the left dot, 270 is the bottom dot. Distance - The distance from the center to the outer dots, in centimeters. Size - The size of the outer number, in centimeters. RInner - The number entered by the user for the center dot. ROuter - The number entered by the user for the outer dot. RAxis - The dot chosen by the user for the location of the outer number. Weight - +1 if the responses were correct, -1 otherwise. Additionally, the log file records the results computed for each of the axis tested, and reports the distance in centimeters and angular distance in degrees of the measured threshold.
