New Leadership of Committee on Conflict of Interest

Randall Reed, Ph.D., and Neil Bressler, M.D., were appointed co-chairs of the School of Medicine's Committee on Conflict of Interest (CCOI) beginning July 1, 2006. Dr. Reed, Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics, served as vice chair and has been a CCOI member for ten years. He led the policy development committee whose work resulted in the revised Policy on Conflict of Interest adopted in 2002. Dr. Bressler, Professor of Ophthalmology, has been a CCOI member for four years and has assumed leadership roles in the committee.

The new CCOI co-chairs succeed Curt Civin, M.D., Professor of Oncology, who chaired the Committee for ten years. Dr. Civin oversaw implementation of the new conflict of interest policy which involved, among other things, developing a close working relationship with the JHM IRBs. Under his leadership, AAHRPP commended the School's policy and procedures relating to conflicts of interest in human subject research. Dr. Civin chairs a Health System and University-wide policy development committee on institutional conflict of interest. He will continue to serve as a CCOI member.
