JHU SOM ESCRO Online Educational Training Module Consistent with guidelines offered by the National Academies of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, and the International Society for Stem Cell Research, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHU SOM) established an oversight body called the Embryonic Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (ESCRO) in January 2007. The ESCRO Committee is charged with reviewing and approving research that uses human embryonic stem cells or somatic cell nuclear transfer involving human cells at Hopkins. It is essential that all of those engaged in human embryonic stem cell research at Hopkins be familiar with the ethical issues related to this work. Accordingly, an online, educational training module was created to provide an introduction to these issues. As of August 1, 2007, all persons conducting this
research at Hopkins must complete an educational module. In addition,
all investigators listed on JHU SOM ESCRO applications will be required
to complete the JHU SOM ESCRO online educational training module; certificates
of completion for the investigators should be submitted with the ESCRO
application. Investigators who have currently approved ESCRO applications
have sixty days after its release to complete the module. The module may
be accessed from the JHU SOM ESCRO website at http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Research/escro.
