FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES- Back

Fund For Medical Discovery (FMD)

The FMD Committee is now accepting applications for the next cycle of awards. This fund was established to provide modest support for proposals typically not funded by extramural agencies or other funding programs of the School of Medicine. The primary goal of the FMD is to enhance interdisciplinary and interdepartmental research at Johns Hopkins. The highest priority will be given to proposals that clearly will lead to new extramural grant applications for core resources, shared instrumentation, program-projects, research centers, etc. The application deadline is September 15. For complete details on this program, including application instructions, click here: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Research/ora/Funding/fmd.html.

Department of Defense Deployment Related Medical Research Program (DRMRP)

Detailed descriptions of each of the funding mechanisms, evaluation criteria, and submission requirements can be found in the FY08 DRMRP Program Announcements. W. M. Keck Foundation Distinguished Young Scholars in Medical Research Program for 2009

RESPONSE NEEDED BY: Wednesday, October 1, 2008

The Keck Foundation's Distinguished Young Scholars in Medical Research Program provides support for young faculty conducting groundbreaking, innovative, and potentially high impact research in pioneering or emerging fields. Their work must address the fundamental mechanisms of human disease. Due to the decrease in funds from traditional sources, The Keck Foundation will not set limits on researchers' existing funding. Candidates must be in their first full-time faculty appointment for at least one (1) year, but not more than four (4) years. Awards will be up to $1 million over a period of five years. Full program details can be found at the Foundation's website: http://www.wmkeck.org/programs/scholars.html.

This year, Johns Hopkins has been invited to submit one nominee. An internal peer review to select the nominee will be managed through the Provost's Office.

Required materials for internal review:

  1. JHU Internal Submission Cover Sheet (contact graceb@jhu.edu for a copy)
  2. Research plan (4-5 pages, not including figures and references)
  3. Curriculum Vitae (2-4 pages, listing all funding sources)
  4. A letter of recommendation from the candidate's department head
Interested candidates should submit a complete packet of materials for internal review no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 via email, to graceb@jhu.edu. This ensures that an internal selection can be completed in a timely fashion and the final nomination submitted to the Keck Foundation by the December 1, 2008 deadline. If you have any questions, please contact Grace Bigelow (graceb@jhu.edu).
