New Export Controls Compliance Training Course

A new research compliance training course, “Guidelines for Export Controls,” is now available on the Johns Hopkins University’s Compliance Training website (https://secure.lwservers.net/). The course describes how U.S. Government regulations on Export Controls affect research activities. All faculty who mentor foreign students, collaborate with foreign researchers, and/or give presentations to foreign audiences are advised to view the course. Completion of the course is necessary to accurately answer compliance questions 18 and 19 of the eIS (electronic Information Sheet). An official policy statement outlining who will be required to complete the Export Controls course is forthcoming.

Expanded eIS (electronic Information Sheet) Training Program

The SOM Office of Research Administration is now offering three types of eIS training. Please visit http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/research/resources/eIStraining.html for the complete January 2005 eIS training schedule.

Faculty eIS training sessions provide a brief overview of the eIS system and instruct PIs how to complete the compliance section of the eIS. All faculty are encouraged to attend. Sessions last approximately 45 minutes.

Hands-on eIS training sessions demonstrate how to create, complete, and circulate an eIS. All staff who process information sheets on a regular basis are encouraged to attend. Sessions last approximately 90 minutes and pre-registration is required.

eIS refresher courses provide an opportunity for staff to ask questions about the eIS. Staff who have previously attended a hands-on session or are unable to attend a hands-on session are encouraged to attend. Sessions last approximately 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the volume of questions.

For additional information about eIS, please visit the SOM eIS page at http://www.
