GRANT AND CONTRACT PROCEDURES - Back
NIH Loan
Repayment Program Information for Applicants
NIH is now accepting applications for its
five Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs), which can repay up to $35,000
a year of qualified educational debt for health professionals
pursuing careers in clinical, pediatric, contraception and infertility,
or health disparities research. The programs also provide coverage
for Federal and state tax liabilities.
Applicants must have a doctoral-level degree,
devote 50% or more of their time to nonprofit- or government-funded
research, and have educational debt equaling at least 20% of their
institutional base salary. Applicants must have a commitment of
not less than two years of research appointment (fellow or faculty
or a combination) from the department and school of the certifying
official. Those applicants leaving Hopkins for appointments elsewhere
beginning July 1, 2004 should have certification done by their
future institution. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or U.S.
nationals may apply.
All applications for 2004 awards must be
submitted by December 31, 2003. Visit www.lrp.nih.gov
for further information and to apply online.
When applying online, you will need
to list a "certifier" for your institution. Please list
Michael B. Amey (mamey@jhmi.edu)
as the certifier. Your department must email Mr. Amey the following
information in order for him to certify your application:
- Confirmation of the departmental
commitment for at least a 2-year appointment (from July 2004).
This period can be any combination of fellowship or faculty
appointments.
- The current compensation the applicant
receives from JHU in stipends and/or salary at the time of
the application.
