12, 2013 The purpose of the Young Investigator Grant for Probiotic Research is to contribute to the advancement of probiotics and gastrointestinal microbiota research in the United States and to impact academic and career development of young investigators, attracting them into the field of probiotics and microbiota. Young investigators who are senior fellows with a committed faculty appointment or early faculty members within a maximum of 5 consecutive years of his/her first faculty appointment (appointments must be in the United States) are eligible. Applicants must be interested in understanding the health benefits of probiotics and microbiota and the relationship between probiotics, gastrointestinal microbiota and the body. Candidates must be part of an established research program with the capacity to do research on microbiota and its role in health and disease. The Hopkins Conte Digestive Diseases Basic
and Translational Research Core Center was initiated with NIH funding
in June 2011. The goal of the Core Center is to advance GI research
at Hopkins by bringing together GI investigators and encouraging others
in the community to enter this area of research. This goal is accomplished
by:
A key component of this Center is to provide funding
for Pilot/Feasibility Projects. These are one year awards of $10,000-$25,000
typically given each year to ~4 young faculty members who are on track
to apply for and receive NIH-R01 funding. Based on the nature of the
proposal, there is the possibility that up to $50,000 will be awarded
for new innovative GI research. Young or established investigators (both

The National Marfan Foundation (NMF) is pleased
to announce its newest grant program for the early investigator. Applications
are now being accepted for two-year grants in basic or clinical research
on Marfan syndrome and related disorders. A total of three two-year
grants for $37,500 per year for a total of $75,000 per grant will be
awarded. The NMF's grant program is designed to provide financial support
for early investigators studying any or all disciplines involved in
this area. The principal investigator must hold an MD, DO, PhD, ScD,
DDS, DVM or equivalent degree. The investigator must have proven ability
to pursue independent research as evidenced by original research publications
in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants must be within seven years from
their first faculty position and have never received an NIH R-01 grant
award. Appointments associated with clinical house staff/fellowship
training positions will be excluded from the seven-year faculty limit.
Award winners cannot hold concurrent NIH K award. Applications must

The National Marfan Foundation (NMF) is pleased to partner with the Canadian Marfan Association (CMA) to support Marfan syndrome and related disorders research. Applications are being requested for two-year grants for basic or clinical research. The grant program is designed to provide financial support for faculty studying any or all disciplines involved in Marfan syndrome and related disorders. Grant awards are based on proposal evaluation by the NMF Scientific Advisory Board with the approval of the NMF Board of Directors. The NMF and the CMA will co-fund one two-year grant for $100,000. The NMF will award an additional two-year $100,000. The CMA Grant Program is funded by the Temerty Family Foundation. The principal investigator must hold an MD, DO, PhD, ScD, DDS, DVM or equivalent degree. The investigator must have proven ability to pursue independent research as evidenced by original research publications in peer-reviewed journals and hold a position of Associate Professor or above. The Israel Binational Science Foundation
(BSF) announces the availability of funds for short research related
trips of young American scientists to Israel, and young Israeli scientists
to the U.S. In 2013 the program will have two calls and each will support
10 trips. Grants will be $4,000 each. This is the 1st CALL for 2013.
The program is open to PhD students and post-doc fellows doing research
that requires facilities or expertise that are not available in their
home countries. Deadline for application submission is May 2, 2013
