The Michael J. Fox Foundation (www.michaeljfox.org)
has a total of $3-million available for three-year grants to support
several research projects and clinical trials of promising therapies
that may improve treatment of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Funding
is open to academic and industry researchers. Pre-proposals will be reviewed by the foundation's scientific staff
and a panel of scientific experts. Applicants whose pre-proposals meet
the review criteria will be invited to submit full proposals. The

Johnson Foundation is offering physicians from historically disadvantaged
backgrounds (ethnic, financial or educational) who are committed to
developing careers in academic medicine an opportunity to apply for
four-year postdoctoral research awards. Applications will be accepted
online until March 12, 2009. The program will offer up to 12 four-year research awards during the 2009 grant cycle. Scholars will receive an annual stipend of up to $75,000 each, complemented by a $30,000 annual grant to support research activities. Applications will be accepted only online, and further information is available at www.amfdp.org/applicat.htm. March 12, 2009, 8 p.m. (5 p.m. PST) is the deadline for receiving completed online applications. The deadline for postmark of all supporting documents and hard copies is March 13, 2009. The Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09) Defense Appropriations Act provides $8
million to the Department of Defense Autism Research Program (ARP) to
support high-impact, innovative research to improve the lives of individuals
with autism spectrum disorders now. This program is administered by
the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command through the Office
of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). Detailed
