Burroughs Wellcome Fund Investigators in Pathogenesis
of Infectious Disease Program for 2008
RESPONSE NEEDED BY Monday, September 17, 2007
The goal of the Investigators in Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease
Program is to cultivate accomplished investigators in their early careers.
The program supports the study of pathogenesis using multidisciplinary
approaches and focusing on the intersection of human and pathogen biology.
BWF is particularly interested in research on both host and host-pathogen
studies, originating in viral, bacterial, fungal, or parasite systems.
Studies in this area may have their foundations in the pathogen, but
the primary focus should involve the effects on the host at the cellular
and/or systemic levels. Special note: Genetic, biochemical, and immunological
approaches are all suitable areas for program support.
The BWF awards program will provide $400,000 over a five year period
and is intended to give recipients the freedom and flexibility to pursue
new avenues of inquiry and higher-risk research projects.
Eligible candidates must have an MD, DVM, or PHD degree, an established
record of independent research, and must hold a tenure-track position
as an assistant professor or equivalent.
Once again this year, Hopkins has been invited to submit two nominations
(three, if one nominee holds a DVM) for this program. Therefore, an
internal peer review to select our nominees will be managed through
the Provost's Office.
Required materials for internal review:
Full program information can be obtained on the
Burroughs Wellcome Fund Program website located at: http://www.bwfund.org/programs/infectious_disease/
pathogenesis_background.html.
Interested candidates should submit a complete packet of materials for
internal review no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2007,
via email, to graceb@jhu.edu. This
ensures that the internal selection can be completed in a timely fashion
and the final proposal can be submitted to the Burroughs Wellcome Fund
by the Wednesday, November 1, 2007 deadline.
