The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is holding a national competition for investigators and plans to name as many as 50 new researchers by spring 2008. This competition will strengthen HHMI's community of researchers and fund new approaches to the research of biological problems not only in the biomedical disciplines but in related fields including chemistry, physics and biophysics, biomedical engineering, and computational biology. This is the first time that HHMI has offered a general competition with a direct application process.

Successful candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree
  • Hold a tenured or tenure-track position (or the equivalent) as Assistant Professor or higher
  • Have at least 4 but no more than 10 years of experience since their initial appointment as an Assistant Professor (or equivalent)
  • Be the principal investigator on at least one active, national, peer-reviewed research grants of at least three years duration

Detailed information - including access to the secure application site - may be found at the HHMI web site: www.hhmi.org/research/competitions/investigator2008

Please Note: An internal review of applications by the Provost's Office is not required for this program. A copy of the finalized application should be sent to Grace Bigelow via email at graceb@jhu.edu.
