Ellison Medical Foundation Senior Scholar Award in Aging 2007

LETTER OF INTENT DEADLINE: Thursday, March 8, 2007

The Ellison Medical Foundation supports biomedical research (which includes basic biology, basic biomedicine and epidemiology) on aging. The Ellison Medical Foundation Senior Scholar program funds established investigators conducting research in the basic biological and basic biomedical sciences relevant to understanding aging processes and age-related diseases and disabilities.Awards will be made for up to $150,000 per year for up to four years.

Please note: An internal review by the Provost's Office is not required for this award. If an interested candidate is selected by the Ellison Foundation to submit a formal application, the applications should first be submitted as a proposal for funding through the candidates's divisional research administration office. Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Awards at the Scientific Interface Program 2008

RESPONSE NEEDED BY Monday, March 12, 2007

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) Career Awards at the Scientific Interface Program supports physical and computational scientists entering the biological sciences who are dedicated to academic research. This program provides $500,000 over five years to support up to two years of advanced postdoctoral study and the first three years of a faculty appointment. BWF encourages nominations of women and members of under represented minority groups.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, statistics, or engineering and have completed 6 months but not more than 48 months of postdoctoral research at the time of application. Candidates can not hold or have accepted a faculty appointment as a tenure track assistant professor at the time of application.

Johns Hopkins may submit three nominations for this program. Therefore, an internal peer review to select the nominees will be managed through the Provost's Office.

Required materials for internal review:
1. JHU Internal Submission Cover Sheet
2. Research plan (3-4 single spaced pages, not including figures and references)
3. Curriculum Vitae (2-4 pages, including other support)
4. A letter of recommendation from the candidate's department chair or director

Interested candidates should submit a complete packet of materials for internal review no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2007, via email, to graceb@jhu.edu. This ensures that the internal selection can be completed in a timely fashion and the final proposals can be submitted to the Burroughs Wellcome Fund by the May 1, 2007 deadline.

April Clinician Scientist Award Application Deadline

The next deadline for School of Medicine Clinician Scientist Award applications is Monday, April 2, 2007, 5:00 P.M. CSA Guidelines are available at http://www.

The award provides up to $80,000 per year for a maximum of two years to support up to 75% of the applicant's salary and benefits. If you have questions, contact Michelle Linehan at 955-8937.
