Letters of intent due October 16, 2006 The ASCI Council is proud to announce that this year, the ASCI will offer five one-year awards of $70,000 each to R01 and K08 applicants whose applications were reviewed in 2006 but just missed the funding mark. Applicants must be M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. investigators who have plans to resubmit their applications and importantly must have been mentored in the lab of an ASCI member within the past three years. To apply, a letter of intent must be submitted on or before October 16, 2006. Full applications are due on or before November 17, 2006. Nomination Deadline: November 7, 2006 The Department of Defense (DoD) Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) has released the Program Announcement for DoD BCRP Innovator Awards (https://cdmrp.org/files/2006/bcrp/inn_pa.pdf ). ), the Dennis W. Jahnigen Career Development Scholars Program offers two-year
career development awards to support junior faculty in the specialties
of anesthesiology, emergency medicine, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology,
orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, physical medicine and rehabilitation,
thoracic surgery, and urology. The award is intended to allow individuals
to initiate and ultimately sustain a career in research and education
in the geriatrics aspects of their discipline. To be eligible, a candidate must be a physician
who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; be certified or board eligible
to practice in one of the targeted specialties; have a primary academic
appointment in a U.S. institution in one of the eligible specialty departments;
and have completed his/her training (residency and/or fellowship) on or

Deadline: December 15, 2006 Sponsored by the Ellison Medical Foundation and administered by the American Federation for Aging Research, the Julie Martin Mid-Career Award in Aging Research program supports outstanding mid-career scientists who have not been engaged in aging research but whose research is relevant and could lead to novel approaches to aging. Also eligible are aging researchers whose research is high risk and thus not attractive to NIH or other traditional sources but has the potential for high payoff in advancing our understanding of basic aging. Two four-year awards of $550,000 each will be awarded. The applicant must be an associate professor who achieved tenured status after December 1, 2003. Non-tenured associate professors at institutions with tenure are not eligible. Applicants at institutions that do not offer tenure must demonstrate that their appointment is equivalent to that of a tenured associate professor. The proposed research must be conducted at any type
of not-for-profit setting in the United States. Applicants who are employees
in the NIH Intramural program are not eligible. More than one application
per institution is permitted, but your application must be submitted through
