The Johns Hopkins University-Weizmann Institute of Science Cooperative Program

RESPONSE NEEDED BY Friday, March 17, 2006. The Provost's Office is pleased to announce the opportunity for Johns Hopkins faculty to seek support for collaborative research projects between investigators at Johns Hopkins and the Weizmann Institute of Science. Johns Hopkins University and the Weizmann Institute of Science have enjoyed many years of scientific collaboration and informal contact between their faculty and students. With the availability of funds, donated by a Johns Hopkins alumnus and others, investigators at the two institutions have the opportunity to engage in a more significant research program. Preference will be given to proposals that involve topics in areas including oncology, diabetes and neuro-biology.

Faculty who would like to engage in a collaboration with colleagues at the Weizmann Institute are invited to submit a proposal. The members of the Hopkins University-Weizmann Institute of Science Cooperative Program Committee will evaluate the proposals. The evaluation criteria will include: scientific merit, innovative nature of the work, degree of genuine collaborative effort, and potential for a long term relationship. Final action of the committee will depend on the availability of funds and competition with other worthy proposals. In order to plan for a timely and efficient review process, leaders of potential projects should submit a brief letter of intent no later than Friday, March 17, 2006. The letter of intent should be sent via email to graceb@jhu.edu. This ensures that the selection can be completed in a timely fashion and will allow the selected candidates ample time to prepare their full application by Monday, April 24, 2006. Any questions may be addressed to the committee chair, Dr. Simeon Margolis (smargoli@jhmi.edu), or Grace Bigelow (graceb@jhu.edu).
