Sandler Program for Asthma Research
The Sandler Program for Asthma Research
(SPAR) announces their Senior and Junior Investigator Awards intended
to develop important new pathways of investigation in basic research
regarding asthma. SPAR encourages applications from outstanding
investigators outside the field of asthma. Many of their past
awardees are internationally renowned experts in basic immunology,
virology, pathology, genetics, cell biology, signaling, molecular
pharmacology, etc. Investigators from within the field are also
eligible for awards provided that the proposed work represents
a major departure from their current and past research. Because
this groups mission is to develop important new pathways
of investigation in basic research regarding asthma, they are
looking for truly novel ideas with breakthrough potential, and
accept that this approach may entail substantial risk and very
limited preliminary data.
Award Levels: Senior Investigator Awards
are $250,000 per year for three years. Junior Investigator Awards
are $125,000 per year for three years. Junior Investigator Awards
are intended for investigators who have already established an
independent research program, and who have demonstrated exceptional
early accomplishment permitting the expansion of their work to
the field of asthma.
Eligibility: Please refer to the SPAR
Web site for details on applicant criteria, the nature of work
to be supported, and application instructions (see http://www.sandlerresearch.org
). The application deadline is February 14, 2003 with funding
beginning July 1, 2003.
