FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES - Back

THIS [ICE] PROGRAM IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS (4/03)

Internal Funding Opportunity: Molecular and Cellular Engineering Pilot Program

Pilot project grant funds are now available from the Institute for Cellular Engineering (ICE) to support projects pertaining to stem cell biology and engineering. Therefore, applications are being solicited for the Molecular and Cellular Engineering Pilot Program (MCEP). Renewal applications will also be considered for a second year of funding contingent on progress, and, in some instances, for a third year of funding. MCEP grant applications will be evaluated for their novelty, innovation, and impact upon the field of stem cell research. Guidelines for submission appear below, and the application form is accessible at: www.insidehopkinsmedicine.org/
ICE_application_form.htm
.

Applications must be submitted electronically. Please submit the entire application as a .doc file to the following e-mail address: Helen Montag (hmontag@jhmi.edu) by October 1, 2002. Applicants will be notified on December 1, 2002.

Guidelines for Applications
1. Awards will be made for pilot projects of feasibility studies preparatory to the development of an application for independent peer-reviewed support and/or to take maximum advantage of a unique research opportunity or idea.
2. Applications will be judged by a review panel composed of the ICE Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee will have the option of consulting outside reviewers on an ad hoc basis. High priority will be given to the project's innovation and potential impact upon the field.
3. All Hopkins faculty members may apply. An investigator may hold only one pilot project award at a time.
4. Grants will be made in the range of $75,000-$150,000 per investigator per year. Renewal applications will be considered for a 2nd, and in some instances a 3rd year of funding. A minimum of two new awards will be given annually, with no more than three awards given in any one year.

Application Instructions:
Applications must be typed in a font size of 10 or greater, single-spaced, and should be organized as follows:
I. Cover sheet

The total length of sections II-IV below should not exceed three pages.
II. Specific Aims: no abstract needed
III. Background: Include preliminary studies of applicant
IV. Experimental Design: Please refer to previous publications of P.I. whenever possible
V. Budget and budget justification (use NIH PHS 398 format)
VI. Additional Material

A. Progress Report (For Renewal Applications only/ 1 page maximum).
B. List of Relevant Publications of P.I. Not to exceed ten.
C. Current and pending funding. Carefully indicate reasons for non-overlap if potential overlap exists.

  CAM Research Funds Available

The Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Center is pleased to announce the availability of pilot funds for developmental and feasibility studies in the clinical and basic sciences investigating the use of CAM therapies for primary or adjuvant use in cancer or cancer-related conditions. The primary purpose of this initiative is to identify innovative CAM projects that have the potential to lead to externally funded research capable of assessing the efficacy of a CAM therapy or of understanding the mechanism of action of such a therapy. Its ultimate objective is to identify CAM approaches capable of improving the treatment of cancer, or of relieving the pain and disability due to malignant diseases. This program is unique in that it will consider unusual projects that might be very difficult to fund through other mechanisms.

Proposals are due October 11, 2002. A complete RFA is posted at www.hopkins-cam.org/announce/rfa_2002.html or call 4-5678.
