Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations' Funding Opportunity Website

New funding opportunities from foundations and other private sources are posted on a Web site provided by JHU's Corporate and Foundations Relations: http://jhuresearch.jhu.edu/OCFR.htm.

New postings include, for example:

  • The latest round of Grand Challenges in Global Health Initiative Explorations grants offered by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, and the Wellcome Trust (http://www.grandchallenges.org/explorations/

    );

  • Several grant programs from the American Federation for Aging Research and Ellison Medical Foundation including the Julie Martin Mid-Career Award in Aging to support outstanding scientists who propose novel directions in biological gerontology; and

  • Information about the Kavli Prizes in Astrophysics, Nanoscience, and Neuroscience from the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters, which awards winners purses of up to $1 million each for outstanding achievement in these fields (http://www.kavliprize.no/artikkel/vis.html?tid=27289).

The CFR Web site features these competitions and more in order of deadline and provides links to each funder's application information. The listings are provided to help faculty achieve their research and academic goals by maximizing support from private foundations and corporations.


New at the Genetics Resources Core Facility (GRCF)

The DNA Analysis Facility, a division of the Genetics Resources Core Facility (http://grcf.jhmi.edu/) now offers self service access to a Taqman® 7900HT with a Taqman® Low Density Array (TLDA) block, in addition to the standard 96 and 384 well blocks. The TaqMan® Array is a 384-well micro fluidic card that enables a researcher to perform 384 simultaneous real-time PCR reactions without the need to use liquid-handling robots or multichannel pipettors to fill the card. Prices are $30 for a 3 hour run. For more information or to schedule a time to use the machine, please call 5-2836.
