Protocol and Amendment Submission Instructions

Submit completed signed form to the Johns Hopkins Animal Care and Use Committee. Electronic submission (fax or email) is fine, but you may be asked to send or bring the original if a faxed copy is not readable after photocopying.

New Protocols:
Submission deadline is the first business day of the month for committee review during that month. The committee meets the third Thursday of each month.

Third-year Renewals:
Third-year renewals should be submitted no later than the first business day of the month that precedes the month the protocol expires. If the current protocol expires prior to approval of a new protocol, any animals housed under this protocol number at that time will be placed on a "Holding Protocol", administered by Research Animal Resources until approval is obtained. No research may be carried out under the Holding Protocol. Also, no animal related costs may be charged to federal funding sources until the third-year renewal is approved.

Annual renewals:
Annual renewals for species covered by the Animal Welfare Act also are due by the first business day of the month for committee review during that month. This includes all warm blooded vertebrates except for rats, mice and birds bred for research.

If you have any questions about the procedures or requirements, please contact the Animal Care and Use Committee Office at 443-287-3738. Thank you.
