Prospective Fellows Information

Dear Applicant:

I am very happy that you are interested in applying for fellowship training in VIR. As Program Director I place a high premium on our prospective applicants.  I know the process is complicated, arduous and associated with a lot of expense, effort and significant time investment. We all have gone through it. My goal is to help you complete this process with the least anxiety possible and to answer your questions truthfully and promptly. You can contact me at ANY TIME and you will receive a prompt and accurate response. Above all you can expect honesty. If I can not answer your question I shall try to direct you to the appropriate person.

The Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine offers an ACGME accredited, comprehensive one-year program of post-graduate fellowship training that includes ALL areas of Vascular & Interventional Radiology, including a strong Interventional Oncology section, endovascular section as well as gynecological & pediatric section.  We participate in the Fellowship Match System administered by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) in electing our future fellows.  Please go to http://www.nrmp.org/fellow/registration.html and register to obtain a AAMC ID and a password under applicant registration.

Large clinical volume, expert staff, state-of-the-art equipment and respect from our referring departments affords excellent clinical training for our fellows. We perform one of the highest (if not the highest) number of procedures annually.

The Division of Interventional Radiology has recently expanded to five dedicated state-of-the-art radiology procedure rooms that include the latest in flat panel technology. We are supported by a seven room preoperative area, a twelve bed recovery room and four Physician Assistants. Seven full-time faculty attendings and seven IR Fellows make up the physician staff for Interventional Radiology.  Our staff have admission privileges and we do take care of our own inpatients.

Although the Hopkins program is well known for its strong clinical service, appropriate emphasis is given to research and teaching.  Participants in the program are exposed early on to two well-equipped animal research laboratories and are encouraged to participate in on-going grant research.

Please fill out and return the enclosed application, with your CV and three letters of recommendation from staff/faculty physicians who are familiar with your work. The letters must be submitted under separate cover.  All applicants should be in good standing in their programs.  We may not be able to offer each applicant an interview due to the large applicant pool; however each completed application will be reviewed in detail to ensure that all applications receive equal consideration.

Our objective is to select people who we believe will make good interventional radiologists and bring a strong work ethic and good disposition to our closely knit program. Application and all correspondence must be mailed to:

Department of Radiology/IRC
