TRICARE Young Adult (TYA) is now available under TRICARE Prime for enrollment in the Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan. Applications will be accepted starting December 1, 2011, with coverage beginning January 1, 2012.
Eligibility
You may qualify to purchase coverage if you are:
• Under age 26
• Unmarried
• Not eligible for an employer-sponsored health care coverage
Premiums
The monthly premium for the TYA Prime option is $201. The initial 3 month premium amount is $603.
The initial three-month premium payment can be paid by personal check, cashier’s check, money order (made payable to Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan), or credit/debit card. After the initial three-month payment, monthly premiums must be paid in advance electronically through a checking or savings account funds transfer or an automatic debit / credit card charge. Premiums may be adjusted annually.
How to Apply
A separate application, found here, must be submitted with the initial 3 month premium.
When Coverage Begins
The 20th of the month rule applies. For an application submitted before December 20, 2011, coverage will begin January 1, 2012. Those who submit an application after December 20, 2011, will begin coverage on February 1, 2012.
