What Is the Plan?

The Uniformed Services Family Health Plan (USFHP) is a managed care program developed by the Department of Defense (DoD).  As designated TRICARE Prime providers under a DoD contract, the plan offers comprehensive health care benefits to members of the seven uniformed services, including active-duty family members, retirees and their family members, and survivors.

Before TRICARE was developed, the DoD awarded US Family Health Plan contracts to the Uniformed Services Treatment Facilities located in Baltimore, MD, Portland, ME, Boston, MA, Staten Island, NY, Houston, TX, and, Seattle, WA. Now, we provide TRICARE Prime benefits to eligible military beneficiaries living in and around Maryland, Washington D.C, South Central Pennsylvania, Delaware, Northern Virginia, and West Virginia.

Our primary care groups in Maryland include Johns Hopkins Community Physicians (JHCP), with more than 20 health care locations. All JHCP medical practices provide the full range of primary care services, including internal medicine and/or family practice. Some of the larger centers offer Ob/Gyn, pediatrics, ophthalmology and optometry services plus on-site Rite Aid pharmacies, labs, and radiology services.

All locations are staffed by Johns Hopkins-credentialed or employed providers, including board-certified/board-eligible physicians, certified nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other health care professionals. Use our directory to find a doctor or hospital near you.

It is our goal and commitment to provide all of our members with the highest quality healthcare services available. Learn more about our Quality Improvement department mission and measures.
