If you feel that you need help for a mental health condition, the services of the University Mental Health program are available to you so long as you remain enrolled in the Student Health Plan. The University Mental Health program is run by the Johns Hopkins Department of Psychiatry. For more information or to make an appointment, please call 410-955-1892. If you are experiencing an emergency during non-business hours and can not reach your clinician directly, please call 410-955-1892 and press 0 for the operator on call who will be able to assist you.
Note: The School of Nursing does not participate in University Mental Health in 2007-08 and 2008-09. Nursing students who need mental health services should contact the Homewood Counseling Center at 410-516-8278.
Note: Effective July 1, 2007, the benefit for University Mental Health has improved.
As a result of the improved benefit, there is no longer a limit in the number of visits when a patient is seen by a University Mental Health provider, and there is no out-of-pocket expense for these visits. In addition, the Department of Psychiatry has recruited additional mental health providers to improve access to the program, as well as a full time clinical coordinator, Mary Marshall Teer. Additionally, there is now an emergency access system in the evening in case of need.
The insurance plan coverage, when seeing a mental health provider or Psychiatrist outside University Mental Health, has not changed.
Please return to this page in the next few weeks as we are in the process of adding more content regarding University Mental Health.
