Who should attend

The symposium is intended for those with an expressed interest in transplantation and reconstructive surgery (vascularized composite allo-transplantation).


The primary goal of the symposium is to make reconstructive transplantation available, accessible, and affordable to the patients and their families.

Workgroup 1: Allocation

Charge: Recommend a model for coordinated allocation of donated grafts.

Workgroup 2: Patient Awareness and Education

Charge: Develop strategies to ensure public awareness of reconstructive transplantation, proper patient education and consent, and adherence to ethical principles

Workgroup 3: Funding Considerations

Charge: Develop strategies for reimbursement from government and private payers, and coordinate federal funding efforts among academic medical centers.
