Viral Hepatitis Innovations: Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B
Viral Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is now known to infect 1.8% of the US population (between 4 to 5 million seropositive individuals), with an estimated 2.7 million people with active HCV infection. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infects 350 million individuals worldwide, including approximately 1.25 million in the United States.
Johns Hopkins has been at the forefront in further defining the natural history of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection before and after Liver Transplantation; Hopkins is engaged in cutting edge research for novel therapeutic strategies and developing promising viral molecular targets for drug discovery.
