UNOS Implements New Lung Rules May 4, 2005

UNOS Requires Lung Patients to Re-test Every Six Months

Thousands of hours of discussion and data crunching occured before United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) decided to officially change the lung allocation rules. The new rules were implemented May 5, 2005. Our lung transplant team members have been working with CTC patients to inform them of the new rules and to clarify patients’ responsibilities. Under the new system, the biggest difference for lung patients is that they must update their score through a series of routine tests every six months. For further detail, see article in recent issue of this newsletter or visit our web www.hopkinsmedicine.org/transplant.
