Hopkins’ Longest Living Heart Transplant Patient

Orlando DeFelice, 48, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his heart transplant. At age 28 he was diagnosed with idiopathic cardiomyopathy, a serious heart disorder of unknown origin. An accounting professional at McCormick Industrial Division, DeFelice feels great and plays golf regularly. After his surgery in 1983, doctors told him he had an 80 percent chance of living one year post transplant and a 50 percent chance of living five years.
