The Johns Hopkins Hospital Adult Lung Transplant Support Group began in 1998. As a peer support group, it has provided a wonderful opportunity for patients and/or their family members to network with one another while sharing information, as well as helpful hints as they are faced with the daily challenges of living with a chronic, life threatening illness.
The Lung Transplant Team members feel strongly that it is important that patients and their families have an environment where they can ask questions, discuss their concerns and receive the emotional support and encouragement needed in preparation for transplantation. We know that lung disease does not discriminate and we recognize that all of our patients are at different points in their lives. Some are married, some are single, some are parents and some are grandparents. Some are disabled, some are working, and some are retired. Despite
their differences, they share a common bond where relation-
ships are formed, friendships develop, and courage and compassion are present.
The Adult Lung Transplant Support Group meets monthly for JHH patients who are pre- or post-transplant, and their family members. For information, contact Terry Ziegler at 410-955-8528.
