The American Liver Foundation National Capital Area Chapter serving Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia held the first "Flavors of Maryland" culinary Gala at the prominent downtown Baltimore location, the Bay Atlantic Club.
This historic landmark was one of more than 1500 buildings destroyed when the Great Fire of Baltimore claimed more than 70 downtown blocks in 1904. As conditions improved the members built the Bay Atlantic Club which is affiliated with the Baltimore International College, a culinary institute. Over sixty guests, sponsors and staff of the American Liver Foundation joined six of Baltimore’s finest chefs for a one-of-a-kind culinary experience on the evening of April 3rd.
Chefs donated their time, talent, staff, food and beverage to contribute to one tantalizing night of gourmet food and palate-pleasing wine. Each chef prepared their five-course, signature meal tableside while educating guests on cooking methods, preparation style and beverage pairings.
Looking back on the event’s success, Laura Caldwell, Executive Director of the National Capital Area Chapter, said "We are pleased to have brought together community leaders, businesses and generous and concerned individuals to support the American Liver Foundation and our fundraising efforts for research. As a result of events such as this one, our Chapter is growing and expanding our outreach to the community by providing education programs, support groups, information, newsletters and a vast array of other services. Our work would not be possible without support we receive from organizations like the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. We are grateful to you and each of the sponsors and donors who supported this event."
