Hopkins Home Service Brings Care to Your Doorstep

Sheila Carpenter, R.Ph., JHOC
Pharmacy Manager

If you or a loved one is unable to leave the house, Johns Hopkins Home Care Group may be able to bring the renowned hospital’s care to you.

The Home Care Group is comprised of three companies that serve the home care needs of Johns Hopkins patients and those seen at other health care facilities in Central Maryland. The company consists of Home Health Services, Pediatrics at Home, and Pharmaquip and has 450 employees.

Johns Hopkins Pharmaquip is the pharmacy and durable medical equipment provider. Pharmaquip provides certified infusion nurses for adult patients and works with Pediatrics at Home to provide for pediatric infusion needs in the home. The infusion pharmacy is a state-of-the-art modern clean room. Pharmaquip also provides respiratory therapy and durable medical equipment services. A fleet of Pharmaquip vehicles makes over 250 deliveries daily in the area. In addition, Johns Hopkins Pharmaquip has three convenient ambulatory care pharmacies located in the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and Bayview Medical Center, which accept prescriptions from employees and patients.

Home Health Services provides a broad range of home care services to adult patients in the comfort of their homes, which includes nursing, physical therapy, social work, occupational therapy, home health aides, and nutritional support.  Services are skilled and intermittent.

Pediatrics at Home provides a similar range of home services to the pediatric patient and family plus infusion therapies and speech/language pathology. A deliberate effort is made to teach parents how to be independent while functioning as a support service to them. The professional staff has a pediatric background and is infusion competent and chemotherapy-certified. Pre- and post-transplant care can include administration of anti-rejection medication, antibiotics, and nutrition support. Palliative care and a strong family focus provide for a unique service centering on the development of the child in society.

All these services can be made available by calling 410-288-8000.
