David P. Mason, M.D. is Assistant Professor of Surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and is an attending surgeon at both Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.  Dr. Mason is a graduate of Harvard College and received his medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.  He completed his general surgical
training at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, a teaching
hospital of Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Mason then went on to complete his Thoracic Surgery fellowship training at the Brigham and Women's Hospital with special focus on Thoracic Oncology. 

Dr. Mason's primary clinical interests include the multimodality management of malignant mesothelioma with extensive experience in extrapleural pneumonectomy gained at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.  In addition, his interests include minimally invasive surgery with video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) lobectomy for lung cancer as well as esophageal cancer.  Dr. Mason performs thoracoscopic lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS) for emphysema and also performs lung transplantation.

Dr. Mason did research training at the University of Washington studying mechanisms of cellular movement and invasion.  His present research interest is in the management of lung cancer and lung metastases using isolated lung perfusion.
