Dr. Freischlag came to Johns Hopkins from the University of California in Los Angeles, where she was Chief of the Vascular Surgery Division and Director of the Gonda (Goldschmied) Vascular Center. Dr. Freischlag completed her surgical residency and post residency Vascular Fellowship at UCLA. Before Dr. Freischlag returned to work at UCLA, she was Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she served as the Vice Chair of the Vascular Surgery Section and Chief of Surgery at Zablocki VA Medical Center.
Dr. Freischlag is currently the principal investigator on several major grants including the O.V.E.R. Trial, Open Versus Endo-Vascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA). Her research interests lie in the effects of smoking on arterial and venous endothelium causes of atherosclerosis and intimal dysplasia. She is currently looking at the reasons for failure in dialysis access sites and evaluating a new laser that can identify types of atherosclerosis in the neck arteries. She is a member of many highly regarded editorial boards for medical journals and publications. Numerous medical and research papers to her credit both in peer-reviewed journals and vascular surgery textbooks have been published. As a member of several prestigious surgical societies country wide, Dr. Freischlag endeavors to make a difference in decision-making processes which will eventually impact the physicians of tomorrow.
