Mark Duncan, M.D.

Associate Professor of Surgery and Oncology


Mark D. Duncan, M.D., is an associate professor of surgery and oncology and full-time faculty at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Duncan received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in molecular biology, and his medical degree from the Mayo Medical School, Mayo Clinic. His surgical training was at Georgetown University including an additional two-year surgical gastrointestinal research fellowship. He served on the faculty of Georgetown University and the V.A. Medical Center, Washington DC before joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins in 1996. Dr. Duncan is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Association for Academic Surgery, the Society of University Surgeons, the American Society for Clinical Oncology and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Dr. Duncan specializes in gastrointestinal surgery and surgical oncology(cancer surgery)including surgery of the esophagus, stomach, intestine, colon and rectum, gall bladder and pancreas, adrenal and retroperitoneal sarcoma. He holds joint appointments in the departments of Surgery and Oncology, and is the Chief of Surgical Oncology at the Bayview Medical Center, chairs the cancer committee and directs the Tumor Board. Dr. Duncan has ongoing research and publications related to esophageal and gastric cancer, and holds an NIH grant to study gastroesophageal tumorigenesis.

Consultations with Dr. Duncan include surgical candidates with the diagnosis of cancer, tumor, potential tumor, intra-abdominal tumor, or cancer of the esophagus, stomach, intestine, colon and rectum, gallbladder or pancreas, adrenal tumors and retroperitoneal sarcoma.
