Kathryn M. Chu, M.D., M.P.H.

Assistant Professor, Colon and Rectal Surgery
Dr. Chu received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University. She graduated from the University of California- San Francisco School of Medicine. She received her Master’s in Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of California-San Francisco and her colon and rectal fellowship at the Lahey Clinic. Her main clinical interests are colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, laparoscopic surgery, and benign anorectal disease.
Her current research interests include outcomes in colon and rectal cancer, health disparities and health care utilization. She is also interested in the global prevention of obstetric fistulas and measuring social reintegration of former fistula patients in Africa. She has volunteered at medical mission hospitals in Kenya, Lesotho, Zambia, and Honduras. She has an active interest in international public health.
