Dana K. Andersen, M.D., FACS, chairman of the division of surgery at Johns Hopkins Bayview, earned an undergraduate and medical degree at Duke University, where he also trained in general and thoracic surgery. His distinguished career in pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery includes appointments at the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn, the University of Chicago and Yale University, where he was professor and chief of general surgery. His research on gastrointestinal hormone physiology has been unded by the National Institutes of Health, where he was a member of the Surgery and Bioengineering Study Section.
Andersen is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Surgical Association, past president of the Association for Academic Surgery and an officer or past officer of numerous medical and surgical societies, including the Society of University Surgeons, the American Association of Endocrine urgeons and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. Widely published, he is a reviewer for several cientific and clinical journals, an editorial board member for Contemporary Surgery and an editor of chwartz’s Principles of Surgery.
Before joining the division of surgery at Johns Hopkins Bayview, Andersen was the Harry M. Haidak istinguished Professor and chairman of the department of surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care.
