Biography


Dr. Perler is the Editor of two vascular surgical textbooks, Vascular Intervention: A Clinical Approach and Advances in Vascular surgery, Volume 12. He was Assistant Editor of Rutherford Vascular Surgery, 6th Edition and is Associate Editor of Rutherford Vascular Surgery, 7th Edition.  He has authored more than 185 medical journal articles and textbook chapters on the diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of circulatory diseases.  He has served on the Editorial Boards of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Vascular, the Annals of Vascular Surgery and the Journal of Vascular Surgery.  He has served as Assistant Editor of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and is currently the Associate Editor.  Dr. Perler is recognized and respected as a superb clinical vascular surgeon, outstanding teacher and lecturer.  Dr. Perler received the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award by the Johns Hopkins surgical house staff in 2001.  As a Visiting Professor he has delivered nearly 200 lectures at national and international symposia and postgraduate courses.  He recently was named the United States Surgical Chair of the multinational Transatlantic Asymptomatic Carotid Intervention Trial.  He has served since 1989 as a Consultant to the Circulatory Devices Panel, Center for Devices and Radiologic Health of the Food and Drug Administration, as well as on the Expert Panel on Interventional Radiology and the American College of Radiology Task Force on Appropriateness Criteria since 1996.  Dr. Perler has been recognized for his clinical and academic contributions by a number of organizations, such as America’s Top Doctors; Marquis Who’s Who in America; Who's Who in Science and Engineering; Strathmore’s Who’s Who; America’s Top Surgeons: Consumers’ Research Council of America; The Top Doctors List: Center of the Study of Services; The Best Doctors in America; and West's Who's Who in Health and Medical Services.
