The Department of Surgery has a vision and plan that is based on the solid ground that has been established by my predecessors - Halsted, Lewis, Blalock, Zuidema and Cameron.
We are known for excellent care of patients and being ranked among the top hospitals in the United States, having a strong reputation for teaching medical students, training surgical residents and possessing a core of well-funded and state of the art research activity. Globally, the vision for the Department of Surgery is to maintain its position as the premier place where patients want to receive their care, where surgical faculty want to spend their careers and where medical students feel they learned their most.
