Sibley and Suburban Hospitals Among Only 59 Hospitals Nationally to Have 100% Employee Flu Vaccination Rates

Release Date: September 30, 2015
Sibley Memorial Hospital was the only District of Columbia hospital to have 100 percent of its employees be vaccinated for the flu, while Suburban Hospital was one of only three Maryland hospitals to achieve the same perfect score, according to BetterDoctor, an online consumer health site, which based their findings on Medicare data.

“Without all providers being vaccinated, hospitalized patients are at higher risk for contracting the flu, and the flu can be extremely dangerous for fragile patients,” says BetterDoctor.

“Clearly, those of us in health care owe it to our patients and to ourselves to take the necessary precautions to ensure we minimize the risk of disease transmission,” says Richard “Chip” Davis, Ph.D., president and CEO of Sibley Memorial Hospital. “Flu vaccination is one of the simplest, yet most important steps we can take in this regard.”

Gene E. Green, M.D., president of Suburban Hospital, echoes these sentiments and notes that he is “very proud of our staff for their commitment to patient safety and their recognition of the critical role each and every one of them plays in keeping our hospital safe.”

About Suburban Hospital: Suburban Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, is a community-based, not-for-profit hospital serving Montgomery County and the surrounding area since 1943.
