Suburban Hospital has been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. Suburban Hospital was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

The residents of Montgomery County and surrounding areas are one step closer to having an enhanced Suburban Hospital that will advance the promise of medicine and serve the community’s health care needs for generations to come. On Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 12:30 p.m., the hospital will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking to initiate construction for the first phase of a campus enhancement plan that will transform the Suburban Hospital campus.

Citing Suburban Hospital’s innovative efforts to encourage nurses to achieve specialty certification, the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) awarded the hospital its 2014 Award for Nursing Certification Advocacy. The ABNS, representing nearly half a million specialty certified registered nurses, is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to improving patient outcomes by promoting the value of certification.

Suburban Hospital hosts the Prostate Cancer Survivorship Series presentation, “New Advances in Molecular Testing for the Guidance of Patients Considering Active Surveillance,” on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 7:00-8:15 pm in the hospital auditorium, located at 8600 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda.

Older Americans are enjoying more active lifestyles than ever before. While this is great news, there are physical effects of the aging process that are not cause for celebration. An aging spine can lead to a variety of conditions that may affect your ability to enjoy your golden years. Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Dr. Jeff Jacobson, who practices at Suburban Hospital, helps shed some light on one of these conditions: lumbar spinal stenosis.

On Thursday, May 8, Suburban Hospital will host its biennial SHOWCASE fundraiser at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Super Club 6:30-10:30 pm. Proceeds from the evening will directly benefit Suburban Hospital’s leading-edge Neuroscience Program, which annually serves more than 2,500 patients from throughout the greater Washington, DC region and beyond. The program includes comprehensive treatment of brain and nervous system disorders, including stroke, aneurysms, brain trauma, and more.

Suburban Hospital Pain Management and Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Yvonne D’Arcy’s book, Compact Clinical Guide to Cancer Pain Management: An Evidence-Based Approach for Nurses, has been awarded second place in the 2013 American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Awards in the Palliative Care and Hospice category. D’Arcy has worked at Suburban Hospital for more than 11 years.
