We conduct research focused on the etiology and treatment of substance use disorders, particularly alcohol and nicotine dependence. Our work examines the impact of acute and chronic stress and genetics as etiological factors in the development of hazardous substance use behaviors. We frequently incorporate brain imaging procedures to better understand the neurobiological mechanisms underpinning these problems. We also conduct clinical trials to test pharmacotherapies for these disorders.
