RE: 2008 Summer Educational Research Opportunity
Some financial support for first year medical students, who choose to spend time during the summer of 2008 completing a summer research opportunity (SRO), will be available. This funding is only available for work with Johns Hopkins faculty members.
The maximum amount is $3,000 for an eight-week effort. If your summer educational research opportunity is less than eight-weeks, the funding will be pro-rated according to the amount of effort spent on the project.
Students receiving 12 months of other funding (i.e., MSTP, Ph.D. or military students) are not eligible for funding. Please see the enclosed application for other funding restrictions.
If you are interested in a SRO and are aware of an opportunity, please contact the preceptor. If you do not know of an opportunity and wish to participate, please proceed as follows:
1) Click on the Summer Research Opportunities link. A new browser window will open, displaying a world map. Click on your geographical area of interest and browse the positions listed there. Once you find a position that interests you and confirm it is still available, return to this page.
2) Click on the 2008 Summer Research Application link. Using “Save As” from the File menu, save the application as a Word document on your computer. Complete the form using Microsoft Word, forward it by e-mail to your preceptor so that he/she may complete the Preceptor’s page using Microsoft Word prior to printing out the application for signature.
3) Print your I-9, Federal W-4, and Maryland State tax forms from this link.
Applications, tax forms, and I-9 forms are available on the student web site and are also located in the Student’s Room (in the wall rack). In order to be eligible for this opportunity, please submit the completed application and all forms to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Room 137 by April 25, 2008.
4) Upon completion of your Summer Research Opportunity, please fill out the Summer Research Report form. Return this completed form to the Student Affairs office, BRB 137, no later than September 26, 2008.
If you have any questions, please contact my office at 5-3416.
