The Medical Student Senate (MSS) represents the medical student body to the faculty and administration of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. MSS also organizes social, charity, and educational activities for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
All medical students are conferred membership to the medical student society upon matriculation to the JHUSOM. Four representatives from each class are elected annually to Medical School Senate, which is intricately involved in promoting student-faculty relations, student activities, recreational and academic issues, and advocating for the best interests of the student body as a whole. Elections are held in the spring, with the exception of fall elections held for the first-year class. Representatives from each class serve as student members of committees with faculty and administration that deal with various issues at the JHUSOM. These committees include:
- The Education Policy Curriculum Committee
- The Medical School Council
- The Johns Hopkins Student Assistance Program
- The Alumni Association
- Numerous other Hospital Groups
The Medical Student Senate coordinates the funding of student groups in the School of Medicine. One MSS representative is elected to act as the treasurer of the Executive Board each year and oversees these activities. To find out more information about student groups and events, please visit the MSS website.
MSS representatives also help coordinate various social events by class and charity events for the entire School of Medicine. MSS Executive Council also plans events such as:
- White Coat Ceremony
- Med Prom
- Masquerade Ball
- Monte Carlo Night
- End-of-Basic Sciences Party
- Match Day Celebration
- Graduation Festivities
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month. If you have questions, suggestions, or recommendations on how the medical school and student life at Hopkins can be improved, please email us at Hopkinsmss@gmail.com
