Diversity at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine

The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine considers diversity as one of the core components of medical education. The school is committed to teaching cultural competence to medical students and increasing the number of minority physicians available to serve the growing minority population in the United States.

The Office of Diversity is committed to supporting Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Medical Students via one-on-one mentoring, recruitment and retention of a diverse student body and sponsoring activities to increase diversity amongst medical students.

  • Dunbar/Hopkins Partnership (mentoring, paid & non-paid internships, job shadowing, lectures, tours of JHH facilities) - A school-to-career program that broadens and advances students' interest in and awareness of opportunities and challenges.
  • JHHS/PriceWaterhouseCoopers Achievement Scholarship - Awards a full, 4-year scholarship and financial aid package to qualified Dunbar student(s) admitted to Johns Hopkins University
  • JHH Summer Jobs Program experiences - Provides high school students with work-based learning
  • JHM BOND to BOND Program - Collaborative partnership with community schools

    Career Development - Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
    Youth Mentoring - Institute of Notre Dame High School
    Adopt-A-Class Program - Tench Tilghman Elementary School & City Springs         Elementary School
    America's Promise Youth Mentoring Program - Dunbar Middle School
  • Alternative Careers - Provides a one-day workshop (once a year) exposing Middle/High School students to various allied health occupations.
  • INROADS/Baltimore - Offer summer internships and career development training for minority undergraduate students in business and Allied Health.
  • PRIME (Professional Readiness Insurance for Minority Excellence) - Invites minority graduate students to come to JHH for their practicums/field work experiences in health care fields, combining clinical and administrative experience.
