Eleven years ago a young physician spoke those words that all families dread to hear- “he’s going to die in a few weeks.” Who would have thought that those few, yet significant words would serve as the foundation for my journey into the world concerned with disease eradication. Since my journey towards understanding of human diseases began, I have discovered a partiality for scientific investigation that, with time, has built upon my determination to combat cancer. This journey, I have learned since being here at Hopkins, includes road blocks disguised as classes, mountains masked as qualifying exams and valleys masquerading as thesis project selections. Some of these detours have cast what at times seemed to be dark, insurmountable clouds of doubt on my love for science, research and knowledge in general. Thankfully a number of Hopkins’ superstars (two in particular housed in the CMM office) have helped me to see the silver lining, the light at the end of the dark tunnel. As a result I feel confident that I will not only receive my doctoral degree from Hopkins but I will continue my voyage towards scientific discovery.
Lesson learned: help is but a call away. We look forward to your call!
