Trainees Home Page

Definition

TRAINEES are degree candidates in other institutions (undergraduate and graduate, except M.D.) who are appointed for specific time periods usually not exceeding one year.  The purpose of their appointment is generally to develop a specific area of expertise that is not available at their home institution.  Trainees are not permitted to enroll in JHU courses without formal application and payment of tuition. Certificates are not issued to trainees.  All trainees must be covered by health insurance through the School of Medicine Student Health Program (SHP).  Spouses and dependent children must also be covered through the SHP or carry equivalent coverage acceptable to the School of Medicine.  Foreign based insurance is not acceptable.
