Income Deferral for Residents, Interns and Postdoctoral Fellows

Eligibility

If you are a full-time, part-time, temporary, limited-time or casual resident, intern, or postdoctoral fellow who receives a taxable compensation (e.g.salary/wages) from the University, you are eligible to make voluntary contributions to this Plan.

To receive University contributions to the Plan of up to 1.5% of your annual base salary, you must be a full-time or part-time resident or intern at the School of Medicine.  Non house-staff postdoctoral fellows do not receive University contributions.

About the Plan

You can make pre-tax contributions to the Plan each pay, from a minimum of $15 per month (up to the annual maximum established by the IRS.  For 2012, the maximum contribution is $17,000.  For 2013, the maximum contribution is $17,500.)

If you are age 50 or older, you may also be eligible to make "catch-up" contributions (up to an additional $5,500 annually in 2012/2013).

You are always 100% vested in all contributions, including those from the University.  "Vesting" refers to your ownership of your Plan Account.

Enrollment

Initial enrollment application in the JHUSOM 403(b) retirement plan for eligible Postdoctoral Fellows can be made by submitting the following forms to the Registrar’s Office, 147 Edward D. Miller Research Building, 733 N. Broadway, Baltimore, MD 21205:

• a signed original Salary Reduction Agreement form; AND
• relevant investment company enrollment application(s)
