A Short Bio of Shih-Chieh Liao Dr. Shih-Chieh Liao was born in Taiwan. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1991 and a Master’s degree in science education in 1993 from the National Changhua University of Education in Taiwan. In 2002, he was awarded the doctor of philosophy degree in educational psychology from the University of Arizona. Upon completion of the doctoral studies in the USA, Dr. Liao returned to Taiwan and started teaching in the Medical School at China Medical University. He had served as the director of the General Education Center and the head of Medical Sociology Department at China Medical University. Dr. Liao’s academic interests focus on psychometrics and cognitive science, and he has been awarded several research grants. He is actively involved in medical education and medical ethics research in Taiwan, and had served as the director of the Statistics Center at Social Empowerment Alliance of Taiwan and the spokesperson of the Ethics and Law Division of a national research project called Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues. Dr. Liao’s current research projects center on the evaluation of medical students’ learning and medical curriculum design. He was granted a Fulbright Exchange Scholar award and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Johns Hopkins University for the 2007-2008 academic year. During his stay at Johns Hopkins University, he will conduct studies on the evaluation and comparison of medical education in the USA and Taiwan. Dr. Liao currently lives in Towson, Maryland with his wife, Dr. Yueh-Nu Hung, their sons, Jeremy and Joshua Liao. They plan to return to Taiwan in August, 2008. |
