Outside Interests
Outside Interests are financial and/or fiduciary interests in outside entities. Usually, outside interests are established through outside services that are not related to your JHU employment duties. Among the most common types of outside services are
- working as a Consultant
- serving on Scientific or Medical Advisory Boards
- speaking or lecturing at company sponsored events
- serving on the Board of Directors of a company
- serving in an officer/manager role for a company
- being involved in a start-up company
As part of a University devoted to the development and advancement of the study of medicine, we recognize that faculty engage with outside entities to further their research. The University supports and encourages these activities. However, interactions with industry and non-Hopkins organizations must take place in a responsible manner so that our culture of academic integrity and objectivity is not jeopardized.
Per JHU School of Medicine policies, all faculty are required to disclose their outside activities.
